Library International Competition 12 000 m² - 69,9M EUR
City of Helsinki
“MX3” relates the history and the geography of Finland. As a tribute to the Finnish natural heritage (Finland = 69% of forest), the project is made of Finnish timber. It limits the carbon footprint of the building: The main material is local and can be easily recycled and have second lives: In 150 years, the library itself will turn into books!
The new Helsinki library is a library of knowledge and a library of wood materials! The architecture is made of a timber collection that shows different species and various crafts.
MX3 is a Pandora’s Box that enhances imagination and learning. It is public and always accessible.
